Yggdrasil Gaming Just Launched Wicked Circus Slot Machine

The third installment of the Jokerizer series is here, Wicked Circus. In the second game of the series, The Dark Joker Rizes, we saw a darker and undoubtedly evil version of the Jokerizer; in Wicked Circus, Yggdrasil’s signature jester takes on a dark, yet more mysterious look.

If the Dark Joker Rizes had the aesthetics of a Tim Burton movie, Wicked Circus has a more Alan Moore vibe to it. Dark, quite possibly evil, but no flaming skulls in here. The reel symbols, as in the previous installments, are mostly fruit with some circus-like items thrown in, like a bullseye for knife-throwers and a lightbulb-lit 7 sign.

Yggdrasil Gaming is the company behind Wicked Circus and the rest of the Jokerizer series. This company is a major gambling supplier. Their product line does not limit itself to video slots and other online casino games, but they also offer live studio lotto drawings, traditional and virtual scratch drawings, among other things. Yggdrasil is based in Malta, but they also have a major development office in Krakow, Poland.

What We Love

First of all, the visual design in this game is simply top notch. The quality of the designs is very good, but the designs themselves are great. They offer an overall thematic continuity with the rest of the Jokerizer series, as expected; but Wicked Circus has its own, understated and mature style.

To be honest, I found the designs of The Dark Joker Rizes to be too much over the top. It looked too much like decorations for a children’s Halloween party. Wicked Circus instead takes the whole dark and mysterious spirit, and translates it wonderfully into the overarching design of the Jokerizer series.

Another thing we really like is this game’s pay line structure. Wicked Circus has 10 pay lines, 5 that pay from left to right, and 5 that pay from right to left. They are, essentially, only five pay lines that pay in both orientations. This really opens up the possibilities for some bigger wins.

The main selling point of this game is, without a doubt, its Jokerizer mode. Like its two predecessors in the series, Wicked Circus features the Jokerizer mode, a bonus mode of sorts activated by landing a winning combination on any pay line.

Your win moves on to become the Jokerizer balance, and you’ll play the mode with extra chances of winning. You’ll have to pay 20 coins per spin, a bit steep. You can keep on playing until you decide to cash in and collect (adding that balance to your real balance), or until you land a mystery win above 600 coins.

Mystery wins are awarded by landing Joker scatter symbols; in regular play you need at least 3, and in Jokerizer mode you need at least 2. In Jokerizer mode you can choose to hold your jokers, turning them into stickys, in hopes of landing more jokers on the next spin.

What We Do Not Like

Even though I really liked how Wicked Circus gave the reel symbols from the series a better look, I do think Yggdrasil wasted a big opportunity here by not adding new reel symbols. Swapping one or two for a truly original design instead of reinterpretation would have been very nice indeed.

Worth Playing?

The Jokerizer series has managed to do something very difficult, add real complexity to the standard slot machine gameplay. The Jokerizer mode really does change the dynamics of play, by forcing you to play with a smaller balance in a higher earning game. Wicked Circus, by adding the hold feature, added yet another layer of complexity to the game.

Truly smart players will find themselves with deeper choices and harder decisions while playing this game. The most remarkable fact about this is that the changes are minor, very subtle, and definitely not gimmicks. Wicked Circus is worth playing, no doubt.
