Microgaming Just Launched Win Sum Dim Sum Slot Machine
Microgaming has recently announced two new upcoming titles: Win Sum Dim Sum, and Bar Bar Black Sheep. The first one, this piece’s subject, is based on Chinese food, specifically that very popular dish in its name, Dim Sum.
It has a 5×3 set of reels and nine pay lines, nothing too different from what you see in most video slot machines out there these days. Its visuals are obviously based around Chinese food, its reel symbols are dumplings and the like, and even some of the traditional symbols (J, Q, & K) have received Chinese-style touches to make them fit the overall theme.
Microgaming is one of the industry’s longest-lived and better established companies; truly a pioneer of online casinos with over twenty years of experience. We have little reason to believe that a game coming from them will be any less than good, so we have an optimistic outlook for Win Sum Dim Sum.
What We Love
The artwork in this game is good enough; it is vibrant and not at all boring. The animations are good, even if they are a bit normal-looking. But visuals are only what draws you in, not what keeps you hitting spin, and this game actually has some special features to offer.
The biggest feature that makes Win Sum Dim Sum are its Expanding Wilds. Wild symbols in this game are represented by bamboo steamers, and when you get a combination of at least three of them, one will expand across the entire height of its reel, making it possible to get combinations you wouldn’t have gotten in other ways, combinations across different pay lines thanks to that stack of bamboo steamers. This is truly an exciting feature for regular spins.

This feature has more to offer, however. During free spin rounds, Expanding wilds are available in the three center reels, reels two, three and four. If you land wilds on all three, all three reels will become wilds. That certainly makes me excited about free spin rounds in this game, without a doubt.
Another of this game’s selling points is its maximum payout. Microgaming is offering up to thirty thousand pounds (£ 30.000,00). This isn’t as extravagant as the enormous payouts of their Mega Moolah Mega progressive jackpot, but it certainly is an enticing proposition.
What We Do Not Like
This game’s overall theme doesn’t strike us as very inspired, to be honest. Sure, we can’t think at the moment of another video slot specifically centered around Chinese food, but the idea does seem like the sort of thing you come up with when you’re running out of ideas (Are we going to see a video slot based on fried rice next? Spring rolls?).
Gameplay is also another thing we’re not too crazy about. This game simply looks like another one in the bunch. The Expanding Wilds feature looks interesting, and we’ll definitely give it a go because of it, but that still doesn’t change the fact that the game seems rather unoriginal, as fun as it may look.
Worth Playing?
As uninspired as this game may seem, it does look fun. It has a good maximum payout, its Expanding Wilds feature looks fun enough, especially during free spin rounds. We do not recommend this game for someone who’s looking for a really new experience in a video slot, they won’t find it here. However, if you’re looking to have a little fun with a fairly familiar type of machine, then this game is definitely for you.
We do have to warn you, this game WILL make you want to pick up the phone and order some dim sum, so take that into consideration.
