Dragon’s Temple takes IGT one step forward, and two steps back

dragons-temple-slot-logoIGT have been steamrolling their way to stardom over the last months, with a flurry of new slot machine games cropping up all over the shop. By and large, most of them have really enhanced the software developer’s brand.

The new Dragon’s Temple slot is a case of one step forward, and two steps back for IGT, though.

The land-based turned online casino slot creators don’t normally throw in too many of the old high-playing card symbols in their slots, but that is most certainly the case with this new Far Eastern themed slot. Other aspects of the game have gone a bit retro, too, not least the wagering menu.

At the end of the day, there are likeable things about IGT’s new Dragon’s Temple slot, but there are more unlikeable things. This is a slot which has the potential to divide the IGT slot fan base. With that in mind, let’s see a few of the things that work in its favour and against it.

What we love

IGT are sticklers for being overly strict with their wagering ranges. In most slots, you can’t adjust the number of paylines, never mind get a good grasp of how your wagers are constructed.

That tightness has been cast aside in the new Dragon’s Temple slot, with players able to freely adjust the number of lines they play with (albeit in groups of 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 paylines).

There is even a modicum of movement in how your wagers are constructed, allowing you to wager between 10c per spin and $2,500 per spin rather flexibility enough.

What we do not like

As we’ve said, there are more things to dislike than like. We’ll start with the wagering menu bar. This is sloppy stuff from IGT. They have made no effort to fuse it with the theme of the game.

A retro take IGT may have gone for, but this menu bar is woefully poor in design. It certainly doesn’t fit with the moderately decent graphical look of the game as a whole.

Prizes are pretty poor, too. Don’t expect to win 100x your stake in this slot. In fact, you won’t even win 50x your stake. The capped jackpot in Dragon’s Temple is fixed at 20x your total bet. That is woefully poor, even for IGT, and it certainly won’t win the developers or the slot any fans on those grounds.

Worth playing?

Whatever you think of the bad prizes or naff wagering menu, there is still enough about Dragon’s Temple to like. It is graphically okay, and contains plenty of wilds, including expanding wilds, and a free spins bonus with the option of three different modes.

The best way to describe the game would be to say that Dragon’s Temple isn’t going to top the ladder when it comes to Far Eastern themed slots, but neither it is desperately clinging onto the bottom rung. It is an average slot, but one which doesn’t suit our tastes.
