Dragon’s Temple Slot Review

Dragon’s Temple is IGT’s latest Far Eastern themed video slot, and it is something of a throwback to the slots of old.

The slot machine contains plenty of those colourful high-playing cards that you either love or loathe, as well as few more thematic images, such as catfish, yin and yang symbols, temples, Ming vases, and of course, dragons themselves.

You’ll find your usual fill of special bonuses, and a unique wild symbol structure in the new Dragon’s Temple slot, although in many other respects there is nothing out of the ordinary here.

Developers

It has been a long time since we’ve seen IGT go back to basics with the old high-playing card structure. You just don’t really tend to see that in their newer slots. IGT are also known for being fairly stringent when it comes to their wagering range, and that isn’t the case with this slot.

Instead, players will find the ability to alter their bets quite substantially rather liberating. Dragon’s Temple could be a one-step forward, two steps back kind of game for the software developers.

How to play

Dragon’s Temple contains a 5-reel, 50-line structure, and players are going to be able to alter those paylines for a change. Either 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 paylines can be selected via the wagering menu at the bottom of reels.

The wagering menu itself is not exactly special, and it hasn’t been designed in a manner befitting the slot’s theme. Instead, this looks like more of a rush job from IGT.

Players can also choose their line bets, and these range from 1p up to $50 a pop, giving players a wagering range which that stems from 10p per spin on the game, up to $2,500 per spin.

Features

Wild symbols: There are five very different wild symbols in this slot, and they each take the shape of a dragon. They are coloured in purple, red, green, blue and orange, and each one appears on a different reel in the game.

Wilds can expand to occupy whole reels, and can replace all other symbols in the slot, save for scatters. Wilds are also the joint top-paying symbol in the slot machine game.

Scatter symbols: The scatter symbols appear as yin and yang symbols. Scatters can also trigger a free spins bonus round, when 3 appear anywhere on the second, third and fourth reels of the game. Scattered wins can also be won for 2 or 3 such symbols appearing on the reels.

Free spins selection: When players land the 3 free spin scatters on the reels, they will have the choice to choose between 3 very special free spin bonuses in Dragon’s Temple.

The first of these promises 15 free spins, with the third reel completely wild during every spin. The second option includes 10 free spins, with the second and fourth reels entirely wild during every spin.

The third and final option boasts of 5 free spins, but with the first, third, and fifth reel wild during every spin of the game.

Maximum pay-outs

Dragon’s Temple contains two top paying symbols. They are the aforementioned scatter icon, and the Dragon’s Temple logo. Both of these symbols can offer you wins worth 20x your total bet when 5 of them appear in a winning combination.

That is actually a rather small non-progressive jackpot for any IGT slot, and it will be duly noted by players who try their hand at this slot.

Summary

One cannot help but feeling as though Dragon’s Temple is going to split the field when it comes to public opinion. Many are going to enjoy IGT’s blast from the past style of slot machine game. It certainly is simple to play, and offers up a good selection of features.

There are going to be equally as many people who consider this slot rather costly given what you get in return. The pay-outs do tend to be a little bit on the small side and that is never going to sit well with any players.

Dragon’s Temple has quite a bit in common with other Far Eastern themed slots, although there are better slots with this same theme out there.

Fortune 8 Cat, Geisha Wonders, Chinese New Year, Koi Princess, Gung Pow, 5 Dragons, Lucky Twins, and Emperor’s Garden all offer similar themes, and are at least on par if not better in their own individual ways than the Dragon’s Temple slot.

By all means give it a look, but don’t bank on it ruling the genre.
