Yggdrasil keeps Super Heroes under lock and key

If you were hoping for some red hot news concerning Yggdrasil’s upcoming Super Heroes video slot, you might be in for a bit of a disappointment. Yggdrasil is still no closer to giving us a release date, but their superhero themed slot is gathering plenty of media attention.

Admittedly, that is largely down to the fact that they are being very cloak and dagger about that this slot contains, but we can make an educated guess.

Thanks to Disney completely ruining the Marvel-Playtech partnership (and with it over 20 top quality progressive jackpot slot machine titles), there is a massive hole in the market for a superhero themed slots right now.

Many other developers have picked up on this too, with NextGen Gaming hurrying to release a mediocre Superman themed slot, and another developer currently working on a DC superhero themed slot game.

Yggdrasil is on the case, too, and they have come up with their own 3D superhero themed slot machine. This won’t be based on specific comic book heroes, though, rather ones of their own making.

What we love

We love how Yggdrasil has been keen to craft something of their own. Most other developers will be doing their utmost to try and sign a deal with DC to get Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman Aquaman, or whatever else on-board for their latest Slots. Yggdrasil has said no, forget it.

They have chosen to focus on their own brand of superhero games, and from what we’ve seen (a 30-second teaser clip is all there is), they appear to be comical, and hugely entertaining.

What we do not like

Yggdrasil is really not giving anything away with this game. It not only makes our job as reviewers a nightmare, but it also makes us pine for more as players and lovers of slots. Yggdrasil probably has very good reasons for wanting to avoid giving too much away at this point.

After all, some other developer may nick the concept (as seems to happen a lot in the slot world), before Yggdrasil gets a chance to get a foot up on the opposition. Whatever the reason, we – like many others – are consumed with interest, and that is frustrating.

Worth playing?

Who can say? We’ve got our own ideas about what the Super Heroes slot will look like and offer. We’ve based those ideas on hours and hours of research. The truth of the matter is that there is no real way to tell just what Yggdrasil is up to, therefore no real way to tell if it will be any good.

Given that Yggdrasil doesn’t usually disappoint, our money is the company released something wholly new, unique and ultimately enjoyable in the world of superhero themed video slots.
