Win with the luck of the Irish, in the classic NextGen Gaming remake

For many months now, we have heard tales of NextGen Gaming’s grand project. Of course, we’re talking about the resurrection and redesign of an old favourite, the Irish lucked themed Emerald Isle video slot.

This month, the revamped Emerald Isle has finally been unveiled to the masses across the online casino world.

Does it really stand out from the much earlier slot of the same name, and can it deliver the same quality of entertainment as its predecessor? In short, did NextGen Gaming achieve everything they set out to do with the redevelopment of Emerald Isle? You bet.

In truth, the slot isn’t really any different from that first game. The number of lines remains the same (fixed at 20 a spin), and the wagering options are identical, too.

The special features are virtually no different, either. So, what’s the point in redeveloping this game? The graphics, of course. The new-look Emerald Isle has absolutely awesome graphics, and that will surely boost the lifespan of this much loved slot by another 3 to 4 years or so.

What we love

We love that NextGen Gaming have tried to keep the slot as it was. When it first came out, Emerald Isle was a huge hit – potentially the biggest Irish luck themed game of its time.

However, the slot fell out of popularity over the last few years. Not because of its special features, you understand, but because of its graphics. They were simply too dated to appeal to players.

Because NextGen Gaming have chosen to merely upgrade the graphics and leave most of the features alone, they have fixed the very problem we all had with Emerald Isle, which makes the slot top of the line again.

What we do not like

If we’re being totally honest – there isn’t really anything we don’t like. At a pinch, perhaps NextGen Gaming could have made the wagering range a bit more flexible (such as allowing us to choose how many paylines we wish to play with).

You can’t really do that in any NextGen slots, though, so that would have been a major leap forward, and out of character. Moreover, it would have been another change from the tried and tested formula that worked in the original Emerald Isle slot. We’re glad that little is different, because it makes this slot a winner.

Worth playing?

Emerald Isle contains the same loveable ginger-bearded leprechaun, rainbow scatter, free spin and click and win bonuses that were in the first game. It contains the same dirt cheap wagering range, and it contains similar audio.

We only ever had a problem with the graphics, and now that they have been revamped by NextGen Gaming, Emerald Isle is once again set to be a big hit with fans. Is it the best Irish luck themed slot out there?

Probably not. It is worth an hour or so spinning its reels, absolutely. Keep an eye out for big winnings, too, since this incarnation of Emerald Isle is just as generous as its predecessor was with big cash payouts.
