The Vikings are back, and they are berserk

Vikings Go Berzerk is the sequel to Yggdrasil’s popular 3D slot machine, Vikings Go Wild. The first slot got its title from the fact that Viking symbols could act as sticky wilds, when they battle a sea serpent in the bonus round.

In Vikings Go Berzerk, that feature is back in all its glory. It isn’t the only feature to make a reappearance in this slot.

In all honesty, Yggdrasil knows full well that the original Vikings Go Berzerk slot is a huge hit. They know this so well that when developing this sequel, they have kept many of the original features there. In fact, it is hard to see any new features cropping up in this game.

Whilst the Vikings Go Berzerk slot is pretty much assured of being liked (since it is so like the original), it doesn’t really say much about Yggdrasil’s gaming prowess, as they seem reluctant to take this series in a new direction with this slot.

We’d have liked to have seen more originality in the sequel. You won’t have to wait too long to see what we mean, though, since Yggdrasil has penned this slot for a November 23 release.

What we love

If you are a fan of the original game, it is certainly going to be no skin off your nose that the same loveable features are back once more. Expect your Vikings to do battle with the sea serpent to become sticky in the feature, and expect two ways to trigger said free spins bonus.

Wilds are once again the main feature in this slot, which has improved graphics on the original slot machine game, too.

Vikings Go Berzerk won’t cost you a packet to play, either, with wagers ranging from a floor of just $0.25 per spin, up to a ceiling of $250 per spin (at a guess). We won’t know for sure just what figure the maximum wager sits at until the game is launched.

What we do not like

Whilst a sequel which contains all of the winning features of its successful predecessor can be a good thing, it can also be a nightmare. Once must admit that if you are looking for freshness, and a bit of originality (as we were), you may be a bit disappointed that Yggdrasil hasn’t taken more of a gamble with this game.

They have clearly stuck a gameplay of “we know what works; we’ll do it again”. The developer’s “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” attitude does make you wonder just why a second slot in this series was released in the first place.

Worth playing?

If you loved the original Vikings Go Wild slot, and would like to play it again (only with better graphics), then Vikings Go Berzerk is ideally suited to your needs.

If you weren’t that in love with what you got the first time around, and hoped Yggdrasil would expand on it, then you’ll likely be disappointed with this new slot.
