The new Magic Jester slot turns out to be a bit of a joke

Novomatic have been busy little bees of late, with plenty of new slot launches this year.

This month sees the launch of another one of their titles, and it has an air of the familiar about it, given that it is based on medieval court jesters.

Curiously enough, it won’t just be jokers and jesters that adorn the reels of this slot; they’ll have to share that space with classic fruit machine imagery, too.

This is exactly the kind of game you can expect to find from Novomatic’s new Magic Jester game. The slot offers 5 reels and 10 paylines of gaming action (that’s not so good), and its wagering range is not the cheapest either, with floor and ceiling bets stemming from $0.02 up to $10,000 per spin.

Based on outward appearances, it may be a slot destined for the high-rollers, but can Magic Jester provide entertainment even for those rich players?

We’re not too optimistic. For certain, there are elements of the slot to like, but equally enough that disappoint, too.

What we love

You have to take your hat off to Novomatic for their approach with their Magic Reels feature. This is active after every spin in the game.

What it basically does is offer to double or triple a select few of the symbols in this slot. By doing so, it is entirely possible that you can land winning combinations consisting of of up to fifteen-of-a-kind.

A lack of symbols on this slot also means that you win fairly frequently when playing the game.

Having a wild symbol also helps, especially since it can really bolster your wins when it appears in the game.

What we do not like

Pretty much everything else. We are not big fans of 10-line slots, since they don’t offer you much give on the reels. Moreover, charging $0.02 per line at its cheapest, Magic Jester isn’t exactly going to prove cheap to play for a 10-liner.

There is a distinct lack of other special features in the slot. The two we’ve already mentioned is all you’re going to get. What this slot could have done with was a free spins bonus round, or even an instant win bonus failing that. As such, there are no scatters, no bonus icons, and no multipliers present in the game.

Worth playing?

In a pinch, there is something worth having a look at in Magic Jester, and that is the Magic Reels feature. It will provide you with enough wins to keep you happy, but the entertainment level won’t keep you excited for any long period of time.

Magic Jester is a decent enough game for a couple of spins, but Novomatic simply haven’t provided enough features for this slot to keep you content for a lengthy spell.

Given how many new slots Novomatic have released this year, they could perhaps have taken a little longer making sure that Magic Jester obtained its true potential. They didn’t, and so consequently it hasn’t.
