Microgaming Just Launched Nordic Heroes Slot Machine

Some people might think that reinventing the way slot machines are played is too far a risk to be worth the investment, but not IGT one of the biggest companies if not the biggest in the industry.

They tried to develop a game that brings a whole new gameplay style to market that I got too comfortable with using always the same few ideas. Nordic Heroes game is based on a very recurrent theme which are Vikings and their adventures, but even when this theme has been used hundreds of times I’m sure you have not played a video slot machine like this one.

And this comes as no surprise when we know that the developer is the manufacturer of over half the slot machines built in the United States, IGT is undoubtedly a company that likes to take risks and try new things, this game is the perfect example.

What We Love

There are many games that include original ideas but the main special feature from this game is the best I have ever seen, I really enjoy adventure games and Nordic Heroes combines all the elements that I like from slot machines with the best aspects of action games.

You will have the option to defeat fierce monsters and by doing so you will get experience that will help you level up and obtain new weapons, characters and realms. To face these monsters you will need to obtain three rattle symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5 during a regular spin, once you do you will go to a battle bonus round, there you will have to decide what action your hero will take; there are three possible choices which are to attack the monster that you are fighting with, to defend yourself from the monster or to stun the monster, this battle bonus round will last until you defeat three monsters or lose to one of them.

The developers seem to have been aware that they choose a common theme, that is why I presume they made such transparent effort to have new things for players to enjoy from this title; another aspect of the game that they really work hard on was the design of every single symbol available on the reels, they did not use the regular cards that most games do and rather decided to design new and original symbols for every spot on the reels that match the theme of the game.

What We Do Not Like

As you can notice I was really surprised by how good this game is, but there is one thing that even though it is not that important it could have been done a little better, I dislike that the only interaction that players have with the interface of the game is the spin button, all decisions are made at random, and since the developers went for an adventure type of video slot machine they could have at least given players the chance to interact with the different situations that the game developed.

Worth Playing?

Definitely, if you balance all the good and bad things with this game the result is overwhelmingly positive. From a design point of few it is a spot-on, the animations are great and the illustrations were carefully crafted.

The new ideas that were introduced in Nordic Heroes to bring us an adventure kind of game, in which you level up to obtain new items, unlock new characters and discover new territories is welcomed as a breath of fresh air an industry that’s it too comfortable repeating the same old tricks.
