IGT Just Launched Balloonies Slot Machine

It is quite a different video slot machine when compared to what we are really used to find in the market. Brought by International Game Techology, this game does not spin the reels, they float from the bottom up.

It has a theme inspired in party animals, but not the party animals that get wrecked in Las Vegas, but the ones that we would be able to find in a kid’s party. All the symbols on the reels are figures made of air balloons, with a light base color selection and a nice and sober design. The symbols that decorate the reels go from the traditional A, K, Q, and J poker cards (balloonies, of course), elephants, giraffes, monkey, and other original symbols from the game.

Balloonies started as a light weight online slot machine for mobile devices, but since it had a pretty good reception, International Game Technology decided to make it available for personal computers through web browsers.

What We Love

Well, you would be surprised that there are a lot of things to love about this title. First of all, since the symbols are helium-filled balloons, they all float from the bottom up, instead of the usual spin. Whenever you land a combination, the balloons pop and spaces are filled with the ones that were below them, revealing even more symbols at the bottom. If this movement keeps making combinations, the balloons will pop until no further combination is made. This feature allows you to make more combinations that you were able to make with regular spins.

The star symbol will double up the pay-line win every time it appears, and, in addition, it will add a 5x multiplier for future spins. If you manage to keep making stars appear, the multipliers will keep adding up. On the other hand, there are wilds, of course, represented with an odd red spikey character that will work as your “joker” as it replaces any of the symbols on the reels (with the exception of the scatters and the bonus ones) to help you make even more combinations across the pay-lines available.

Last but not least, the balloon symbol, which appears on the first, second and third reels only, will trigger a special pick feature every time you manage to hit three of them (not necessarily making a combination). Do this and three balloons will appear, and you will be asked to choose one of them, revealing the number of free spin rounds you will be rewarded with. During the free spin rounds the grid changes a little and the star multipliers will appear more frequently than often in regular spins.

All of these features are made to boost, not only the game’s playability, but also its profitability. Balloonies has a RTP of 96.4% which is quite good.

What We Did Not Like

The game is spotless! I could not say anything I did not like. It has scatters, it has wilds, it has bonus games, it involves some of the player’s interaction in the actual game, the design is great, and so on. I could only say I am never pleased with the use of the traditional J, Q, K, and A poker cards, but that is not enough to figure in this section as something I, in fact, did not like.

Of course! International Game Technology has done it again and I am pretty sure this one will make its way to the top of the market as we are rather used to find in the games made by IGT.
