Gamevy’s form dips dramatically with The Link

the-linkMost of you won’t really be familiar with Gamevy. This small developer has actually produced some rather decent slots in their short history, but their latest video slot  – The Link – is certainly one to forget.

The Link was released this autumn with high expectations, but the 2016 winners of the Ice: Total Gaming –  Game to Watch prize have failed miserably in delivered the kind of slot we have come to expect from them.

We know that Gamevy loves to produce game show themed slots, and to be honest, most of their games (such as The Heist) are incredibly entertaining.

How can a software developer have missed the boat so badly? It is a question well worthy of an answer, but unfortunately, we simply don’t have one.

So, what have Gamevy produced? The Link is played over a 3×3 grid, consisting of 3 reels and 8 paylines.

Whilst there is nothing inherently wrong with that, we do begrudge paying between $1 and $10 a spin on a slot with little to no special features. Yes, there is virtually nothing worthy of your money in this game. It is shocking, but true.

What we love

One has to try and be fair when writing slot reviews. That is proving more challenging than you might imagine when Gamevy releases something that can best be described as “garbage”. The game really is that bad.

If we were going to find one area where this sorry slot could achieve praise, then we could say that we liked the idea behind the theme. Simplistic, elementary and basic, The Link could really have been something special.

Simple shapes, and no-nonsense gameplay. That’s what The Link could have been. They weren’t far off – they nailed it with the nonsense part.

What we do not like

Pretty much everything about The Link is bad news. Even high-rollers who love classic slot machines games aren’t going to be eager to spend $1 on a spin on this game (never mind a tenner). There is a wild, but it is virtually useless, and seldom appears. There are no other special features of any kind.

To be perfectly honest, most classic slots have no features. However, if you are going to charge $1 a spin for a classic slot, there must at least be a minimum level of excitement achieved. That is sorely lacking from The Link.

Worth playing?

No, not in the slightest. Unless you are content to throw money away on a slot which has a pay-rate of only 93%, has wilds which scarcely turn up and no features; you’ll be better off saving your pennies for something else.

There are plenty of classic slots out there which feature wilds (Microgaming have released over 30), and they are considerably cheaper and more entertaining.

This is bad form from Gamevy, and The Link will haunt them for years to come. Fortunately, the slot is not that widely available, so it’ll probably disappear altogether before too many players frustrate themselves with the game.
