NetEnt Just Launched Motörhead Slot Machine

The third title in the NetEnt Rocks trilogy has been announced; get ready for Motörhead slot, this September. This game, according to the little information out there, will feature high-quality 3D graphics, and, of course, Motörhead’s most iconic songs.

This game feels, oddly enough, like a fitting tribute to dearly departed Lemmy. An apocryphal story states that Lemmy got his nickname from a phrase he used on his friends to ask them for money to play slot machines: “Lend me a quid?”. Obviously, this is before his days of fame and money. That story may not necessarily be true, but it sure fits this occasion, doesn’t it?

Net Entertainment’s latest big series, NetEnt Rocks, promises to be the biggest thing in 2016 for the online casino industry. Guns N’ Roses, the first game in the series, was NetEnt’s most successful release ever. There is every reason to believe that Jimi Hendrix will go along the same path once it’s out in April, and obviously, hopes are damn high for Motörhead’s debut in September.

We would not be surprised in the slightest if Net Entertainment sought to secure licensing rights from other great rock artists and continue the NetEnt Rocks line beyond Motörhead in 2017. The appeal of rock legends makes a damn more compelling theme for a gambling game than cartoonish leprechauns or cute little animals.

What We Love

I can just picture myself having a scotch and playing this game once September comes around. The game’s theme is enough to make me want to play it, no need to know anything else about it. However, I do have to admit that with the very little info we have available, there is not much I can talk about the actual game. Being more than six months away from release date, I’m not entirely sure that there even is an existing playable version of the game yet. I can, however, throw in some educated guesses as to what the game will be like, based on what we’ve seen in Guns N’ Roses.

Guns N’ Roses has two very interesting special features, Bonus Wheel and Crowd Pleaser. Land bonus symbol combos, and you’ll enter a roulette minigame, Bonus Wheel. Spinning the wheel nets you a number of different rewards, such as free spins. Land the roulette on Crowd Pleaser, however, and you’ll enter yet another minigame. Crowd Pleaser is a simple click to choose minigame, played in three stages, where you select musical instruments based on sound cues.

This is certainly a departure from the typical passive gameplay of slot machines, where mostly you just hit spin and sit there, hoping to win. Heck, you can be an even more passive spectator in your own game if you use an autoplay/autospin feature; then you’ll outsource to the machine even that simple press of the spin button.

What We Do Not Like

We do not like having to wait until September to play this game, that’s for sure. We do, nonetheless, have a legitimate concern regarding this game. Given the general trend towards homogeneity in the video slot industry (it’s there, and we all know it; most “unique” features are just gimmicks, let’s not kid ourselves) and Guns N’ Roses roaring success, we do fear that the games in the NetEnt Rocks series will end up being reskins of the same underlying game.

We would be very disappointed to find out that the developers ended up relying on pure starpower to get their games to draw players, and neglected making each game its own. We don’t expect each game to be a radical departure from the rest, but we do hope that each game can be different enough to have its own character and merits beyond soundtrack and visuals.

Worth Playing?

We’ll judge that definitely when we get the chance to play this game, but suffice to say that we look eagerly to get that chance. We can’t wait for September to arrive.
