Star Fall Slot Review

You’ve heard of Net Entertainment’s Starburst video slot, we’re sure. How could you not have done? That slot has become an online sensation and is positively everywhere. Following the success of that slot, Push Gaming has tried to push in on the craze by releasing their own Starburst-esque video slot.

Star Fall certainly has the appearance of the Starburst slot, but does it have similar features to match? We’ll be getting to the bottom of that in our Star Fall review, but first, let’s look at the game’s imagery.

Star Fall features all your customary classic slot symbols (but played over a video slot format), and these include bells, lemons, grapes, diamonds, watermelons, and of course, stars. The high playing card symbols from the video slot world have also been included in this slot, just to emphasise that this isn’t a fruit machine.

Developers

Push Gaming are one of the smallest developers of online slot machine games, so perhaps we shouldn’t expect too much from them. Star Fall is an experiment for them, and they have obviously taken inspiration from what is already a popular and similar slot (Starburst) when developing this game.

Do we really need another Starburst, though? You might think it unfair to compare this slot to Starburst, but given that Push Gaming’s catalogue and library is so small, there really isn’t that much else to compare it against.

How to play

The wagering menu in Star Fall is messy and neat at the same time. It is neat in the fact that its buttons are nice square boxes. It is messy in that there isn’t a whole lot of flexibility in terms of what you can do, and the menu doesn’t match the theme of the game at all.

Star Fall will allow you to choose total bets which range from $0.25 per spin, up to $100 a spin, but you can forget about adjust any of the 25 paylines in this 5-reel video slot.

Features

Wild symbols: Star Fall contains a wild in the shape of a star icon. This symbol can substitute for everything save for the coin icon and can appear stacked on the reels of the slot. Wild symbols cannot offer you cash prizes all on their lonesome.

Scatter symbols: Scatters appear as the coin icons we’ve already discussed. Just like the wild, these symbols are also staked. When they do crop up on the middle reel of the game (and only the middle reel), a free spins bonus round is triggered. No scatter wins are paid out.

Re-spin symbols: Falling Wild re-spins can be triggered by landing one or more wild symbols on the reels. When these do appear, any reels which contain wilds will be locked into place whilst other reels are re-spun.

Free spins bonus: A free spins bonus is direct cause of landing the coin scatters on the middle reel. The bonus begins with an initial 6 free spins. Players can collect coin symbols during this feature on the second, third and fourth reels.

Once three coin symbols are collected on any of those three reels, the reel will be filled with wild symbols which will remain locked into place for the duration of the bonus round.

Maximum pay-outs

The top prize in this game is 20x your total bet. That makes it quite a petite non-progressive prize by any slot’s standards. You will find that this is often the case with slots from Pragmatic Play.

Players can, therefore, win as much as $5 when playing with the minimum stake, or $2,000 when playing with the maximum one. You will need to land 5 diamonds on a line to pull off either jackpot win.

Summary

The amount that you can win in this game is poor, and the features, although numerous are rather fiddly. So, back to the comparison with Starburst. There are stacked wilds and locking reels with re-spins just like Starburst.

There are diamond and star symbols across the reels just like Starburst, but the free spins bonus round is what differentiates this slot from that more popular title. From a thematic, locking wild reel and re-spin point of the view, this slot is a dead ringer.

From a graphical point of view, it is similar. The free spins bonus round isn’t enough to win us over. Star Fall is so close to Starburst that you might as well just play Starburst. Starburst is cheaper, too.
