Jurassic Island Slot Review

Jurassic Island is a brand new slot machine game from Ash Gaming/Playtech. The slot is very loosely based on dinosaurs, and many might say that there are certainly elements of Jurassic Park about this game, albeit without the license.

The slot is a little cheap in that regard, although there is certainly nothing cheap about the features which appear in this game. The dinosaurs which feature in this slot machine are more modern than those we have come to love over the years, with several of these dinosaurs feathered.

Killer planets, giant apes, and other strange non-Jurassic elements to the slot try to make sure that Jurassic Island distances itself from that hugely popular movie franchise, though. You could argue that there are original elements to this slot, but does it look as good as the Jurassic Park slot? No.

Developers

It is quite unlike Playtech to produce something as questionable as the Jurassic Island slot. That is because it isn’t all down to Playtech. Ash Gaming may be owned by Playtech, but this is very much their releases.

The way that the game is structured, down to the graphics it features all ooze Ash Gaming, so if this slot isn’t your particular cup of tea, then you can’t really hold it against the casino software giants.

Playtech seldom releases slot games that are too similar to already existing slots. None of this is terribly bad news, though, because there are perks to this game as you will see.

How to play

Jurassic Island’s wagering menu bar is pretty poor. It is big, it is bulky, and it certainly doesn’t match the theme of the slot – nor the design for that matter.

It does allow you quite a degree of control over how your wagers are constructed. Players cannot alter the number of paylines, though, so expect to be wagering anything from a floor of $0.25 per spin, up to $125 per spin in total with this game.

Features

Wild symbols: Feathered Velociraptors are the best paying symbols in this slot. If it weren’t for Jurassic Park, most people would never have heard of this creature. Just like those movies, the raptors in this slot are also portrayed far larger than they were in real life.

Nitpicking aside, these wild symbols can replace all others save for scatters, and although they only appear on the second, third, and fourth reels of the slot, they can expand to occupy entire reels when appearing in winning combos.

Scatter symbols: The hunter symbol is a scatter. Armed with his piddly gun, this man can trigger one of four bonus round (three of which are free spin features) if he appears 3 or more times in any position on the reels.

Hot Shot bonus: The non-free spins feature is the Host Shot bonus. In it, players can must quickly shoot dinosaurs as they cross the screen to win prizes which range from 1x to 120x your total bet.

White coloured dinosaurs pay the most, being worth up to 180x your total bet in all. DId you ever play Oregon Trail? Remember going hunting? Yes, that.

Multiplier free spins: The first choice of the three free spins bonuses is a multiplier bonus. It offers either 10, 15 or 30 free spins for 3, 4 or 5 scatters. Players can triple their wins in this feature. This is a high variance feature.

Carnivore free spins: The second free spins bonus offers 10, 15, or 30 free spins for 3, 4 or 5 scatters. The difference between this and the previous feature is that in this bonus, players will only be playing with high paying symbols in this feature. This is a medium variance feature.

Raptor free spins: The final option is a low variance feature, and it contains 16, 24, or 40 free spins for 3, 4 or 5 scatters. Players can prosper from stacked expanding wild symbols in this bonus round.

Maximum pay-outs

There is no progressive jackpot in Jurassic Island. Instead, this slot contains a non-progressive jackpot, which is worth as much as 1,000 coins.

To win it, players need to line up 5 raptor wilds on any payline in the game. Keep in mind that your prize can be multiplied by several features in this slot, which is certainly nice.

Summary

Graphically, Jurassic Island is just not as good as Microgaming’s Jurassic Park slot. However, if you can leave the cheesy and under-developed graphics aside, you will find that the feature in Jurassic Island are pretty decent.

It is entirely possible for players to have a somewhat enjoyable experience playing this slot, so we do advocate giving it a whirl if you come across it. We’re not saying Jurassic Island is bad by any means; we’re simply saying that Jurassic Park is better.
