Sails of Gold

sails of gold slot logoThis time we are really glad to be bringing to you what seems to be a whole new rework of Novomatic’s slot machine Columbus Deluxe. Sails of Gold invites you to embark a great adventure full of fun and discovery, as it is set at the old age when the European sailors discovered new territories as they landed in the flagless America wanting to expand the dominion of the reign.

The game features a fresh redesign as the symbols decorating all the reels have been newly crafted, however, the rest of the game (special features and payouts) seem to be remaining the same.

The developers took inspiration from Columbus’ journey to make the all the symbols, the Queen, Columbus himself, Castilla’s coat of arms, and some jewels, accompanied with the practical and traditional J, Q, K, and A poker cards.

Developer

Play’n GO is a company that started out in 1997 as a group of designated professionals in computer science that worked assisting other major firms in the 90s. The Swedish company with its headquarters in Vaxjo decided back in 2005 to start working independently.

Play’n Go claims to be the one of the pioneers that started making the slot machines available for mobile devices, a claim that has been disputed by several companies in the business already. The company that started a small group of nerds have now around 57 employees and a portfolio of more than 90 games.

How to Play It

Sails of Gold is a game based on a traditional 5 x 3 grid set upon 10 different pay-lines for you to come across the different combinations available. Since this title has been made specially for touchscreen devices, the user’s interface is incredible simple, even minimalistic.

There is a big green spin button easily recognizable at the right side of the grid with another button close to it where you will be able to set everything up, like the amount of your wager and the auto-spin feature that allows you to sit back and relax while the game automatically spins all the reels for you.

In the bottom area of your screen you will be able to inform yourself about your balance, the amount of your balance in coins, the total of your bet, your last win and the value of your credits.

Special Features

Sails of Gold gives you the opportunity of doubling up your winnings with the Double Up feature we have been recently seeing in the latest slot machines. These have all been presenting this feature with a coin, however, in Sails of Gold you will have to choose the color of a card before this is drawn in front of you. If you happen to get it right, your winnings will be doubled.

On the other hand, this title has, of course, scatters and Free Spin bonus rounds. If you manage to hit three of the Columbus’ ship symbols on reels 1, 3 and 5, you will be rewarded with 10 free spins. During these bonus rounds, the ship symbols will work as wilds as they could also retrigger the free spin feature.

Maximum Payout

The title features a jackpot 5000 coins, which is a quite decent amount of money, as low as we all might think it is in comparison with the ones featured in other popular titles in the market. All in all, the game has an RTP value of 96.25%.

Summary

First, let’s all remember this is a complete rework of a really old game. Though the visual design has been incredibly improved, the game is quite simple and traditional as its special features don’t have much to offer.
