Glorious Empire Slot Review

NextGen Gaming’s new Glorious Empire slot machine tries to be different from other historical themed slots, in that it isn’t really based on history at all. There are historical elements to this game, such as a Colossus, warriors, helmets and crests, but no one ancient empire is being referenced to.

The Glorious Empire slot instead puts a lot of focus on gorgeous graphics and scenery, whilst offering an expressive selection of features and bonuses. Although flexibility isn’t this slot’s strong suit, it does create an exciting atmosphere for players to get involved in.

Glorious Empire’s developers – NextGen Gaming – know what they like, and they know what works. To that end, many of the slots you can find from this developer contain the same tried and tested format in terms of features and structure.

True, the developers have boosted the number of paylines to 40 in this game, but you won’t find too much else that’s outside of the box. This has worked wonders for NextGen Gaming in the past, and there’s no reason to think that things will be any different for this generic empire-themed slot.

How to play

As is often the case with games from this developer, NextGen Gaming have done away with half of the standard wagering menu we see in slots, in favour of a simple bet button, re-spin and spin button format.

Players can use the directional arrows to adjust their coin values from $0.01 up to $10, and that in turn will see their bet stem from a floor of $0.50 per spin, up to a ceiling of $500 per spin. Why are paying extra for paylines?

NextGen Gaming sometimes does this with their slots to compensate for the decent features. It’s naughty, but not totally expected from them.

Features

Wild symbols: The golden lion and shield symbol acts as a wild icon in the Glorious Empire slot. Wild symbols can offer wins on their own, but not the jackpot. Wilds are also capable of appearing on all the reels of this slot, and substituting for all other icons save for the scatter.

Scatter icon: Scatter symbols appear as temples. These symbols can appear on all the reels, too, and will offer players scattered cash prizes (multiplied by their total bet), when 3 or more appear on the screen during a single spin. The symbols can also be used to trigger the game’s bonus feature.

Free games bonus: There is nothing too surprising about the bonus round in this slot. Glorious Empire has opted for your run-of-the-mill free spins feature.

Landing a total of 3, 4, or 5 scatter icons will see you pocket 7, 10, or 15 free games. Any wild symbols which do show up during this bonus will remain in place for the duration of the feature.

Gamble feature: After any win in the slot, players can opt to gamble their winnings if they choose. If they can correctly predict the colour of the next card, they will double their winnings.

Correctly predict the suit and they will quadruple it. Guess incorrectly, and players will lose their recently acquired winnings.

Maximum pay-outs

Players can expect to win as many as 4,000 coins if they land the non-progressive jackpot in this slot. That cash prize is paid out if players land 5 of the scatter icons anywhere on the reels during a single spin.

By contrast, the next highest paying cash prize is 250 coins for landing 5 wilds on a payline. Glorious Empire comes with a theoretical RTP rate of 96.92%, which is just a little bit below what we usually see from NextGen Gaming, but not unfair in the slightest.

Summary

Personally, this slot looks better than it plays. There is nothing inherently bad about Glorious Empire, but it doesn’t do much different from the countless other NextGen Gaming developed slots we’ve seen.

Give it a run for its money, as it doesn’t disappoint. If you’re hoping for something new, though, you won’t find it in this title.
