Dragonz Slot Review

Dragonz is an upcoming video slot from Microgaming. Unlike many of the Far Eastern slots which contain Chinese culture themes and dragons aplenty, this new video slot has chosen to focus more on the cuddly and kind nature of their dragons.

What you end up with is in effect no too much different from that old Playstation classic – Spyro the Dragon. With the upcoming Pete’s Dragon movie scheduled for release before too long, the timing of this new Microgaming developed video slot is a little bit suspicious to say the least.

Developers

Microgaming may be breaking new ground with 3D graphics in their slots of late, and Dragonz is certainly no different; but that doesn’t mean that they are going to give up on a winning formula. This slot will feature the same 5-reel, 243 ways to win setup as most other hugely successful Microgaming developed slot games.

The slot is due for release in November this year, but we have already seen insider previews of the new game, and it does still look quite different from so many of the other top slots that Microgaming has developed in the past, despite the obvious similarities in structure.

How to play

Players will find that the wagering menu bar fits rather nicely with the theme of the game, and it allows for a good bit of flexibility when it comes to bets, even if you cannot wager on all 243 paylines, individually.

The slot will permit wagers which range from as little as $0.40 per spin. If you decide that the maximum wager is the way to go for you, you can bet as much as $30.00 per spin on this dragon themed video slot. All in all then, Dragonz is quite a cheap slot to play.

Features

Wild symbols: There may be four adorable dragons on the reels of this slot, but personally our favourite symbols are the wilds.

When wild symbols appear on the third reel, you will trigger the Wild Deal bonus. This can see extra wilds chucked out onto the reels to boost your winnings. It’s not a bad addition at all.

Scatter icons: Scatter icons won’t just trigger scattered wins when they fall on the reels. On the contrary; these symbols will also trigger 1 of 4 cracking free spin bonuses in this slot machine game. The more times you enter the free spins bonus, the better the features become.

After entering the bonus 12 times or more, you can pick your own feature from the four available. The four available features include:

Flint spins: In the red dragon bonus, you will pocket a total of 10 free games with Flaming Wilds. Those wilds can appear randomly on the reels thanks to the fire-breathing Flint. Up to 10 wilds can appear on the reels in this bonus round.

Switch spins: Switch – the purple dragon’s bonus – can still you land 10 free spins with a Stashed Wilds feature. Any non-winning wild icons will be collected during this bonus, and then after 3 or more have been accumulated, they will be dispersed randomly across the reels.

Even if you run out of spins, players can keep bagging free spins until all wilds have been redistributed across the reels.

Frost spins: In the blue dragon bonus, players will 10 free games with Frosty Wilds. These frozen wilds will slide across the reels until they land in winning combinations. Frosty wilds are naturally frozen into place for the duration of the free spins bonus, too.

Gobble spins: The last bonus (and apparently the best) is the Gobble green dragon bonus round. It also offers 10 free games, but the dragon will spew wild symbol onto the reels which will then be stuck to them for the duration of the spins (until they form a part of the winning combination).

These vomit-laden wilds may be kind of gross, but they do offer sizeable wins.

Maximum pay-outs

We’re are not able to confirm this just yet, but we believe that Microgaming have banded around the number 3,583x your total bet as a non-progressive jackpot. That seems like a terrific amount to get your hands on from a slot which doesn’t actually cost that much to play.

Under normal circumstances, players will need to line up 5 wilds on a payline to win this kind of prize.

Summary

We’re not one for cuddly slots, but Dragonz appears to break the mould. This slot may have childish, kiddy friendly graphics concerning little dragons and other critters, but don’t let that fool you.

Underneath all of that, this is a serious slot with some serious features, and a one heck of a serious prize. We will be eagerly awaiting this slot in November.
