Dragon Shrine Slot Review

Dragon Shrine has been designed and developed by Quickspin. This new slot machine game isn’t exactly very thematic in terms of imagery, and instead could just as well be about any theme in the online casino world.

Whilst we appreciate that this may not be the best way to start a review of a new slot, it is a feature which stands out so much that it simply has to be mentioned. So, what is Dragon Shrine about? Basically, it is about gemstones.

There are 5 reels (organised in a 3-4-4-4-3 structure) which contain high-playing cards (written in an Asian style) alongside numerous coloured gems. On occasion, you may be lucky enough to land a dragon or a temple icons, both of which are special symbols, but the lack of a solid theme to match the title is a cause for concern.

Developers

Quickspin is not one of the biggest developers of online slots, although they are no slouches either. They have produced some memorable games over the years, but there is every chance that Dragon Shrine isn’t going to be one of them.

The developer aims at producing simple, mobile-friendly slots and that is exactly what they have done with Dragon Shrine. There is nothing overly complex at work, but nothing terribly exciting about what Quickspin have done here.

How to play

This video slot features a total of 5 reels and 40 paylines. You will not be able to adjust any of those 40 paylines, but neither do you have to pay to play with them all. In fact, wagers are half-price as it were in this slot.

Dragon Shrine will set players back at least $0.20 per spin at its cheapest. However, if you do wish to ramp up your bets (and we wouldn’t advise it), you can stake as much as $80 a spin on this very elementary online slot machine.

Features

Wild symbols: On to the features now, and first up is the wild. The wild symbol is represented by the yellow block icon. This symbol also doubles as the best paying symbol in the slot, and can replace all other symbols barring bonus scatter icons.

Bonus Scatter symbols: Known as bonus scatter icons, these green temple symbols can appear on the second, third, and fourth reels of the game. They can offer you a total of 10 free spins when they are landed in either the base game, or the free spins bonus.

Dragon symbols: Dragon symbols appear stacked on the first reel, and they are capable of triggering the Dragon Stack ReSpin feature.

This feature will see all wild symbols locked onto the reels, and 3 free re-spins granted to the player. These re-spins can see dragon symbols appearing on all of the reels of the slot.

Free spins: Once the free spins bonus begins, players will pocket the aforementioned total of 10 free games. During this feature, it is possible to trigger the Dragon Stack Respin feature on either the first or fifth reels (as opposed to the first reel only rule in the base game).

Players can win additional free games by landing more bonus scatter icons on the reels. Most importantly, the paylines in the free spins bonus pay both ways, doubling your chances of landing a good win. No multipliers are included in this bonus round, though.

Maximum pay-outs

As we have already said, the top paying prize in this slot is the wild symbol. If players can 5 wilds on a payline, they can hope to win a non-progressive jackpot, which is worth a total of 10x their total bet.

This is a woefully small jackpot by any standard, and is certainly not going to impress most players. By contrast, the second highest paying symbol is the dragon symbol, which offers a measly 3x your total bet for 5 appearing on the reels.

Summary

To be perfectly honest, aside from the fact that this slot offers a Both Ways Pay structure in its free spins bonus, there is little to nothing of entertainment value in the slot.

Quickspin’s newest slot has a title which speaks of a Dragon Shrine, yet there is precious little in the game to denote that. The features are elementary at best, and don’t really amount to wins of significance.

Lastly, the amount you can actually win with any of the symbols in this slot is shockingly little.

They might be doing you a good deal with the paylines in this game, but the fact of the matter is that there are many other dragon and Far Eastern themed slots out there which cost the same, have better features, more thematic imagery, and offer considerably more in terms of winnings.
