Double Dragons aims to take the whole fantasy theme which is popular of late in a new direction. Double Dragons is a tale of two serpents. One is a dragon of fire, and the other a dragon of ice, and the great battle between them.
Although that is the basic premise of the slot, there isn’t much in the way of a narrative telling any sort of tale going on. Given the special features that this slot has to offer, though, a story isn’t really needed.
Yggdrasil are the developers behind the new Double Dragons video slot. Graphically, there isn’t much difference between Double Dragons and their other slots, all of which contain above average graphics.
The up and coming Scandinavian software developer are certainly one to watch in the coming years, and their latest effort proves that. The progress made in Double Dragons, certainly shows that they have come quite a long way since the simplistic Cirrus the Virus was first launched.

How to play
Double Dragons contains a rather basic gaming panel. It is located below the reels like most slots, and allows you to tamper with the wagering setup only marginally.
All 20 paylines are fixed into place in this 5-reel slot, but you can alter the value of your coins from 1p up to £5 in total. This will see you able to stake anything from 20p per spin, up to £100 per spin.
Wild symbols: There are two wilds in this video slot, and they each offer different features. The wilds are represented by the Fire Dragon head, and Ice Dragon head. The Fire Dragon head can turn between 2 and 3 additional symbols into wilds when it appears. Meanwhile, the Ice Dragon head can double any Dropdown wins you encounter. What are Dropdown wins, you ask? Well, we’ll tell you.
Dropdown Win: Double Dragons contains a Dropdown Win feature. Any winning combination which is struck upon the reels of this slot will disappear, and new symbols will drop down to replace them. This gives you multiple chances to win on every spin.
Double Dragon feature: If players encounter four consecutive wins on the bounce, they will trigger a Double Dragon feature. This feature can see players end up with 2 stacked wilds appearing on the reels. These aren’t just stacked, they are super stacked, each being up to 15 symbols long.
Free spins feature: A free spins bonus round has also been included in the Double Dragons slot. It is not easy to trigger, since you will need 9 dragon heads of a specific type (either Fire or Ice) to activate the bonus. Once the bonus round begins, more dragon wilds will appear on the reels than are present in the base game. In all other aspects, this is a pretty basic free spins bonus round, and shouldn’t pose players too many problems understanding it.
Because this slot doesn’t use scatter icons, and its wild symbol doesn’t offer any monetary wins of its own, the best paying symbol in this non-progressive jackpot video slot is the purple dragon’s eye icon.
If players land 5 of these on any active payline, they can win 125 coins. Do it with an Ice Dragon wild, and you will double the top paying prize to 250 coins per line.
Yggdrasil have really made a giant leap forward with this video slot. Truth be told, most of us were impressed with Yggdrasil’s games a year ago, they had started to fall into a bit of a niche of late, with many slots being quite similar in many regards. They have broken the mold with Double Dragons, though.
Yes, graphically it’s on par with their others slots, but from a gameplay perspective, the Double Dragons video slot is far grander than anything we’ve seen from them before.
If they keep developing slots like Double Dragons, the future is rosy indeed for Yggdrasil. Double Dragons is available to play from September onwards, and we’d advocate giving this slot a run for its money. You should be able to find it at all good online casinos offering software from this fledgling software provider.
