Age of The Gods™ Prince of Olympus

Ever since Playtech announced that they would be forced to move away with their Marvel Mystery Progressive Jackpot Network slots (thanks to Disney purchasing Marvel), we have been hearing a lot of about the replacement for the superhero franchise.

Age of Gods is the series that has been deemed up for the job by Playtech, and while they have already released a number of titles in the franchise, we are still waiting for the launch of Prince of Olympus. Like all of the other Age of Gods slots this one deals with Greek mythology, in particular Heracles (also known as Hercules).

Developers

Playtech have taken on one of the biggest jobs in the online casino world, in trying to replace a proven winning series of over 15 slots (the Marvel progressives) with something wholly new.

Will people warm to the deity themed franchise, or will they simply migrate to another developer? Playtech’s very future as a developer capable of delivering major progressive jackpots could hinge on the success of the Age of Gods franchise, of which Prince of Olympus is a part. Now, enough of speculation, let’s talk about the slot itself.

How to play

Age of Gods: Prince of Olympus contains a pretty standard wagering control bar. Like most modern Playtech slots, the menu doesn’t have too much in common with the overall look of the game, and is more about practicality than anything else.

All 25 lines in this 5-reel slot are fixed into position, so players can only use the line bet button, and the coin value button to alter their stakes. Floor bets cost just 25p a spin, whilst ceiling bets are being pegged at £500 a go.

Features

Wild symbols: Heracles himself appears as the wild symbol, but only on the second, third, and fourth reels of the slot. Wilds can substitute for all other symbols, save for bonus and scatter icons. If you manage to land Heracles in the center of the third reel, or on the second, third, and fourth reels simultaneously, you will trigger the Herculean Strength bonus.
Herculean Strength bonus: In this feature, players will encounter re-spins with wilds expanded, locked, and held on the reels. These can bolster any wins you may have with decent symbols. The bonus can also be triggered in the free spins round.
The Hydra bonus: To trigger the Hydra Bonus, players need to land the Hydra icons on the first and fifth reels at the same time. In this bonus, players take on the role of Heracles, as they try to take out the Hydra by shooting arrows at its numerous heads. Instant win prizes are paid out if you successfully take out this baddie.
Scatters and free spins: The Hercules logo is a scatter icon. It can offer you scattered wins worth total bet multipliers if 3, 4, or 5 symbols appear anywhere on the reels. Players will also get to land 10 free games with a 3x multiplier if they land 3 or more scatters. This basic bonus can be retriggered.

Maximum payouts

The way that the progressive jackpots are won in the Age of Gods: Prince of Olympus slot is virtually no different than in its Marvel themed predecessors.

Players could randomly be taken to a jackpot screen, where they can select from a number of items (in this case, coins) to match 3 icons, and win either the Power, Extra Power, Super Power, or Ultimate Power progressive jackpots.

Summary

To compare the Age of Gods: Prince of Olympus slot with the very games it is meant to be replacing would be unfair. We should only say that Playtech was always going to find it tough to come up with a suitable successor, but in the Age of Gods series, they haven’t done too badly. We should compare this slot with the other Age of Gods slots, though.
Compared to the original Age of Gods slot, the free spins bonus in this slot is slightly underwhelming, whilst its multipliers also pale in comparison.

When measured against King of Olympus, this slot has more features to offer. In other areas (setup and prizes) all of the slots are quite similar. It would be fair to say that Prince of Olympus isn’t going to be the leading game in this franchise, but it certainly isn’t the worst.
